Not so long ago, if your best friend moved to a different country/state, or went away to school, you wrote letters. Even long-distance phone calls were so expensive that most people couldn't afford them.
Now you can find someone interesting on Habbo, get talking to them, and become new best friends with them. It doesn't matter that they live on the other side of the world. You chat with them every day for months, show them a video of that new trick your dog learned this morning, and know every little detail of what they ate for breakfast and plan to wear that day. It's pretty amazing, isn't it?
The Internet is great for establishing an immediate intimacy, finding more people like you, keeping in touch, learning new skills, and other neat things. But like all things new, you get a mixed bag of good and bad, which is why Safer Internet Day was first established.
This year, the slogan of Safer Internet Day is "Discover the digital world together... safely!" Here in Habbo, we always want you to be safe while you're exploring and having fun. You can take part in our Safer Internet Day 2012 quiz! We'll be selecting and announcing winners by 14 February.
